1. Who we are

translatenepali.com is operated by Lakeside Studios Limited, a private limited company registered in England and Wales (company number 16384983), with registered office at 1503 Block C, 70 Holland Street, London, SE1 9NX, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR, Lakeside Studios Limited is the data controller for personal data processed through the service.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to translatenepali.com, the in-browser translator, the notetaker, and the signed-in app subdomain (dashboard, notes, account and authentication pages).

3. Information we collect

Account information: your email address, name, and either a password hash or your Google sign-in identifier.
Translation input: text and audio you submit to be translated or transcribed.
Notes content: text, recorded audio, and AI-generated summaries of your notes.
Calendar data (only if you connect your calendar): event titles, times, and attendees, used to surface upcoming meetings and notetaker join links.
Technical and usage data: IP address, browser type, device information, and basic usage events needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.

4. How we use your information

To operate the translator and notetaker.
To transcribe audio and translate between English and Nepali.
To generate AI summaries of your notes when you request them.
To surface your upcoming meetings, fire one-time browser reminders shortly before each meeting, and deep-link from a meeting card into the notetaker with the title and Google Meet join URL pre-filled.
To write the AI-generated summary of a recorded meeting back into the description of the corresponding calendar event, when you have connected a Google Calendar, so you can find past meetings via your calendar.
To authenticate you, secure your account, prevent abuse, and respond to your support requests.
To debug, monitor performance, and improve the product.

5. Google API Services User Data

When you sign in with Google or connect your Google Calendar, we request the following OAuth scopes:

openid email profile: to identify your account, display your name, and contact you at your verified email address.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events: to read your calendar events (now and going forward) so the app can show your upcoming meetings, fire one-time browser reminders shortly before each meeting, and pre-fill the notetaker with the meeting title and Google Meet join URL; and to write back the AI-generated summary of a recorded meeting into the description of the corresponding calendar event, so you can find past meetings via your calendar. We do not create new events or delete existing ones. Calendar access is optional and only requested if you choose to connect a calendar.

translatenepali’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve user-facing features, to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets with appropriate notice to you.
We do not use Google user data for advertising.
We do not allow humans to read your Google user data unless (a) we have your explicit consent, (b) it is necessary for security purposes such as investigating abuse, (c) we are required to do so by law, or (d) the data has been aggregated and anonymised so that it cannot be associated with you.

You can revoke access at any time via your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

6. Third-party processors

We share the minimum data needed with the following processors, each under a written data processing agreement:

Google Cloud (translation and speech-to-text): text and audio you submit for processing.
DeepL: text submitted for translation.
Anthropic: note text sent to Claude to generate summaries when you request one.
Our hosting provider: hosts the application and stores operational logs.

7. International transfers

We primarily process data in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Some of our processors, notably Anthropic, may transfer data to the United States. Where this happens we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as the lawful transfer mechanism.

8. How long we keep your data

Account data: kept while your account is active. To delete your account and the data associated with it, email admin@translatenepali.com. We will action the request, typically within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records (for example, financial records).
Audio submitted for transcription: processed transiently and dropped at the end of the session.
Notes (text and summaries): kept until you delete the note or your account.
Calendar OAuth tokens: kept until you disconnect the calendar in the app or revoke access in your Google account.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email admin@translatenepali.com.

If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

10. Cookies

We use strictly-necessary cookies only: a sign-in session cookie and a CSRF token. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

11. Children

translatenepali is intended for users aged 16 or over. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app and the effective date at the top of this page will be updated.
